A 60-day journey through the Land Down Under has been cancelled days after the fatal incident of an older woman who was left behind by the vessel on a distant coastal location.

The elderly woman had been trekking on the remote island with other travelers from the vessel, but separated from the excursion for a break. The vessel sailed away leaving her and came back several hours later after the personnel realised the woman was unaccounted for.

A major hunt found her remains the next day.

Authorities are looking into the tragedy, in coordination with investigators and the official investigator.

Chief Executive of the shipping company said that guests and crew on the Coral Adventurer were informed that the rest of the voyage had been cancelled due to the "tragic passing and earlier technical problems".

Through an announcement, he added that guests would be provided a total repayment, and said the company was working "to arrange the travel back of the individuals via chartered flights".

Authorities also released an latest statement, and said they had "delivered a order to the Commander" preventing any new passengers from boarding the ship.

The representative said that they would visit the vessel in the port city upon its arrival.

Chronology of Incidents

The liner initially left the coastal city on October 24th, and was just two days into the expedition at the point of the elderly woman's demise. The tropical location was the initial destination on the itinerary.

Guests on the vessel - who usually pay large sums of money to participate in the expedition - were taken there for a daily excursion with the option of trekking or underwater exploration.

Relatives Reaction

The daughter of the deceased woman said that her relatives was "surprised and grieved that the ship left the island after an scheduled tour without my mum".

In her statement, she characterized her mum as an "active octogenarian" who was a member of a walking group.

"From the little details we have been provided, it appears that there was a failure of attention and ordinary reasoning," she stated.

She added that she desired the inquiry would be able to identify what "the operator should have done that might have saved Her life".

"Based on information from the authorities that it was a very hot period, and she fell ill on the uphill trek," she revealed.

"She was asked her to head down, unescorted. Then the ship departed, apparently without doing a headcount.

"At some stage in that sequence, or not long after, mum passed away, alone."

Operator Response

Via official communication, the Chief Executive affirmed that the operator was "collaborating extensively with authorities to assist their examination".

He said that the organization was "extremely apologetic that this has transpired" and had offered its total backing to the loved ones.

The ship accommodates up to a hundred twenty guests with nearly fifty personnel, according to corporate information. It was specially constructed to reach distant locations of the nation's coast and is fitted with "tenders" - compact vessels used to transport individuals on shore trips.
